This blog post is part of the behind the scenes at breatheHR campaign, giving you an insight into the people and the minds behind the online HR system that simplifies and automates people management.

1. Tell us about the company you work for and your role there

I work for breatheHR, an online HR system, that gives business owners and HR professionals some much needed time back in their day and allows employees to feel empowered over managing their own HR tasks and information. As the Digital Marketing Manager no two days are the same but the goal always remains consistent: raising the awareness of breatheHR so that no one has to struggle with the challenges of HR admin ever again.

2. What excites you most about the work you do?

If there is one thing that you can rely on when you work in marketing, it’s change. The advancements in digital marketing, especially, are huge and can really shake up the way you work. What I really like is how smart we’re now able to be when marketing to potential customers. I’m a firm believer in ensuring that a person is connected to a product when they NEED it, rather than forcing a contorted superficial connection that results in the latest fad. I think it’s important for people to recognise their need otherwise there is no vested interest in the product.

3. What makes you happy at work?

Writing and being creative is always something that makes me happy, so I’m very lucky that I do a job where I can do both!

4. What qualities do you look for most in an employer/company to work for?

I think integrity in an employer is key for me. I’m an open and, sometimes too, honest a person and I think working in an environment with a certain level of transparency helps me to thrive. I’m also not the type to sit back and rest on my laurels. I am always looking to push boundaries, do more and mix things up, so opportunities for growth and a creative, thought-provoking and challenging atmosphere is the one for me!

5. Tell us about a challenge you’ve faced at work and how you overcame it

In a previous job, my thirst to learn and push myself became quite detrimental when I was crushed beneath my workload (not literally, luckily!). If anyone asked, I would do it, whether it was my responsibility to or not. As a result I used to work myself silly doing things for other people without much appreciation in return. I’ve since learnt that it is ok to say no and push back and that it’s also ok to let some opportunities pass you by.

6. Other than the one you work for, which other businesses are you influenced/excited by?

Something that I am really envious of is how well others build and communicate their brand. Although technically not a business, Michelle Obama is someone who, I think, has utilised her position in the public eye to build her own personal brand. She has established herself as a leader in her own right through campaigning for independent initiatives and visiting communities around the world, which, to me, is an incredible achievement.

7. What would other people say is your biggest strength?

I really have no idea! Maybe my honesty and straightforwardness?

8. What did you always want to do when you were growing up?

When I was growing up I always wanted to teach English.

9. What one business application/piece of software could you not live without?

I am a huge advocate for HubSpot, a marketing automation tool, without it there’s no way I’d be able to do my job. On a personal note, I think my world would fall apart if I didn’t have my iPhone, which I know is so sad.

10. If you could work with one famous person who would it be and why?

I would love to work with Anna Kendrick. I think she's absolutely hilarious and hard working and we'd probably have a real laugh!
